After decompressing from one of his team’s busiest days of the summer—the Friday, July 22 combination of Big Thunder Marine’s BFD Fun Run and Performance Boat Center’s Outboard Fun Run on Central Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks two weeks ago—Chris Wagner of WIA Marine Insurance has his sights set on his team’s most-taxing event of the summer season, the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout (Aug. 22-28).

“The Shootout will be here again before we know it,” said Wagner, a longtime sponsor of the massive charity-driven event in his hometown. “We have a lot going on that week—and even have some news to come that we can’t talk about just yet. The Shootout is always a great time for catching up with our clients and friends.”
Wagner, who will be sponsoring the Shootout start boat again with his friends at FASS Diesel Fuel Systems, got the chance to catch up with friends from high school he hadn’t seen in many years during the BFD Fun Run a couple of weeks ago. (If you don’t know, BFD stands for Baja Marine, Fountain Powerboats and Donzi Marine as the event is an owners’ celebration of the three brands under the Iconic Marine Group umbrella.) Wagner said he enjoyed seeing his friends from Illinois who attended the run in their Fountain sportboat.

“That was a super busy day—actually it started Thursday night with the welcome party in the Big Thunder Marine showroom,” Wagner said. “We had a booth set up there and they had an amazing turnout. On Friday, we went to Camden on the Lake for the start of the BFD Fun Run. I got to take a quick rip in the new Donzi Marine 38 ZRC with Big Thunder’s Ed Champion and the helicopter was flying overhead at one point, which was cool. Later in the day, we headed to Performance Boat Center to get set up for the Outboard Fun Run evening celebration. In typical PBC fashion, they did a great job with that.
“I have to say, even though it was pretty hot day, the turnout for both events was amazing,” continued. “To have two events on the same day attracting more than 80 boats apiece is pretty incredible really.”
Incredible for sure. Just like the effort that is going to be put forth by Wagner and the team at WIA Marine Insurance in a few weeks.
