BMW first NEUE CLASS EVs will be a compact sedan and sporty SUV

In the first significant update about the upcoming BMW “NEUE CLASS”, BMW confirmed it would launch a compact sedan and sport SUV to start.

On BMW’s Q2 2022 call, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said:

Our NEUE CLASS will be coming in 2025 – at exactly the right time, when the e-mobility ramp-up will be reaching new levels. The NEUE CLASS will speed up market penetration of electric vehicles even further. For the launch of the NEUE CLASS, we are planning a compact sedan in the 3 Series segment and a sporty SUV.

As we reported, BMW is struggling in terms of overall sales coming out of Q2.

The company saw almost its entire line of internal combustion vehicles drop in overall sales while its EV lineup flourished.

Zipse noted that the “NEUE CLASS” is essential for the company’s future:

It defines what the BMW Group will stand for in the future and will make us an entirely new company. Because: BMW was founded in 1916. In the 1960s, the company reinvented itself with the ‘old’ Neue Klasse. And, in 2025, we will totally reinvent ourselves for the second time with the NEUE CLASS.

Interestingly, the CEO did not stop there in terms of some hints.

He also noted on the call that:

[He] could also imagine a hydrogen drivetrain for this new vehicle generation.

As per the Q2 call, we will see the first glimpse of the BMW NEUE CLASS during IAA 2023 in Munich, which will happen in September 2023.
